Packing your personal belongings

Written by GRIT Digital

A few essential tips for packing your personal belongings and moving home.

Plan early

If you are moving house you need to start packing early as it takes a lot longer than what you will think. Think about what items will be coming with you and how you will organise the boxes.

Valuable items

If you have many valuable and breakable items then you need to check that you are covered under your insurance policy.

Packing list

Pack items in boxes that are from the same room to prevent confusion when unpacking. Calculate how many boxes are needed and order well in advance. If you use a removals company you may find that they provide them as part of the service.

Boxes, tape and bubble wrap

Make sure that you get the right type of boxes for your household items. Use stronger boxes made from corrugated cardboard for heavier items. Use bubble wrap and newspapers to protect your personal belongings and prevent them from breaking inside the boxes. Ensure that the boxes are packed properly and sealed so they don’t come open while being shipped to your new home.

Pack an essentials box

Make sure you pack an essentials box for the day of the move. Pack tea, coffee, cups, a kettle, snacks, mobile phone chargers, toothbrushes etc so everything is at hand for when you need it.
