Planning your move
We’ve been moving families since 1895, so we know that physically shifting furniture and boxes is only half of the process. The key to a successful move is planning!
But don’t panic if you have no idea how to start preparing for your forthcoming move. Our professional Move Managers have compiled a 3 planning stages summary for you:
Start early
We advise that you start planning early. Unless you’re only moving a few bits, we normally suggest you arrange a free survey as soon as possible. You may not have a moving date yet, but we still recommend that you contact us. We’ll discuss your needs early and advise you on service options, methods, budgets and give any other support we can offer you.
Your home, or video, survey
By visiting you at home, or via video, we can understand which items are going where and gauge the environment we’ll be working in. We’d also love to find out how active you want to be in the moving process. For example, you might want to do your own packing. That’s fine by us, but we’re equally happy to take care of everything for you. Our mantra is Moving Your Way; we work around your preferences.
Your move plan
Next, our surveyor will discuss and agree the detail of your move plan with you. Like all of our staff, Robinsons surveyors are fully trained and experienced and can offer the best advice. Once agreed, the plan will be shared with your allocated move manager and you will be given a copy of the plan and quotation.
Planning doesn’t stop there. We know that things can still be outside of your control, even at the final stage. For instance, dates can change. It is for this reason that we can offer you a cancellation waiver and/or a Late Key Waiver if you are concerned that your house completion may be difficult. That’s one less thing for you to worry about!

Frequently asked questions about planning your move
It’s easy – call your nearest office to arrange a free property survey. A brief visit allows us to assess factors such as the volume of goods we need to move, access to property, type of packing required.
Unfortunately we can’t take provisional bookings. A completion date has to be confirmed.
Yes, but only if you want us to. It depends entirely on your preferences. We can carry out a full pack or a breakables-only pack. Both are cost-effective, but if you choose to, you can pack by yourself.
